The Nuremberg Trials were a series of military tribunals held by Allied forces after World War II to prosecute prominent members of the Nazi leadership for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes against peace. They established the legal precedent that individuals can be held accountable for crimes against humanity.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a coordinated surprise attack on southern Israel from Gaza. Over 1,200 Israeli civilians and soldiers were killed — the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Around 250 people were taken hostage into Gaza. The attack triggered a major Israeli military response in Gaza.

Nicolás Maduro Moros served as the self-proclaimed President of Venezuela from 2013 to his capture in January 2026. His rule was characterized by economic collapse, hyperinflation, and the largest refugee exodus in Western Hemisphere history — over 7.89 million Venezuelans fled the country by 2024. The UN formally characterized his government conduct as crimes against humanity. He was captured by U.S. special forces on January 3, 2026 during Operation Absolute Resolve and is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime between 1941 and 1945, along with millions of others including Roma, disabled people, political opponents, and LGBTQ individuals. It remains the most documented genocide in history.

Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist political and military organization that has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007. Designated a terrorist organization by the US, EU, and others, it carried out the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel, killing over 1,200 civilians and taking 250 hostages.
